Falagueira is one of the oldest population centres in Amadora, as evidenced by some islands with traditional architecture from the Saloia region, such as what remains of the old village of Falagueira.

Falagueira's history was linked to the communications network prior to the construction of the railway, with the appearance of traffic support services in Porcalhota, at the junction of the current Rua Elias Garcia (former Sintra road or Estrada Real) and Estrada da Falagueira. This is how the Porcalhota Fountain and the former Pedro dos Coelhos, a pasture house mentioned by Eça de Queirós in his book "Os Maias", came to be. 

The territory of Venda Nova belonged to the parish of Benfica until it was cut off, in 1886, from the part outside the new Lisbon Circumnavigation Road. The road became the capital's fiscal limit, embodied in the construction of the Portas de Benfica, a post where the tax guard collected fees for the entry into Lisbon of goods from neighbouring municipalities.
