6 decorating trends for the new autumn-winter season

Natural fibres in large lamps and rounded shapes in all types of furniture continue to stand out.

If there´s one thing that decoration and design fairs show, it´s that even though brands present new pieces, trends tend to continue over time from one season to the next, albeit with slight variations. And that´s what we´ve seen recently at the Interior Design and Decoration Fairs, Intergift, at IFEMA Madrid, and Habitat, at Feria Valencia.

To give you an example, neutral tones - in different ranges of white, beige and light greys - have been in vogue for several seasons now, and contrasts and nuances are being introduced to combine them with other more vibrant and sometimes more explosive colours. These are the 6 decorating trends for this autumn-winter.

Natural fibres
Natural fibres such as raffia, wicker or rattan continue to be a trend, both in lamps and in rugs and other ornamental elements.

Neutral colours
Go for white, beige and light tones, or an explosion of colours, with a predominance of black and gold, clay and terracotta, and darker shades of green.

Wood
Like other noble materials, wood continues to stand out, especially in natural tones, and if it has all its knots and grain, all the better.

Rounded shapes
Rounded shapes began to be used in tables, chairs and sofas - they are more fashionable than ever in all types of furniture - in Feng-Shui circles contain a very yang and positive energy that accelerates movement. The very same movement that is needed to attract abundance.

Round or oval dining tables, for example, are very popular for their ability to promote unity and balance. The absence of sharp corners eliminates what Feng Shui calls ‘poison arrows’: negative energy associated with sharp edges.

Accessories
Accessories remain a fundamental part of any decorating or interior design project, providing cosiness and making the home feel welcoming. Thus, paintings - large and textured - all kinds of fabrics such as cushions, blankets, etc., mirrors, vases... are on trend.

Accessories include large decorative lamps, which continue to play a major role in any room, but especially in the living room and dining room. And among them, as we said at the beginning of this article, those made from natural fibres, raffia, wicker or rattan are still in fashion.

Artificial plants
Artificial plants of all sizes, but especially medium and large ones, in pots or baskets, continue to be a trend, even more so if possible. The ‘green component’ cannot be missing from any current interior design project: it evokes a return to origin and conveys calm, transforming all the spaces and corners of a home into cosy places.
